1. At the time of the marriage of his daughter Margaret, we presume that he is a soldier, stationed at Chatham Barracks, since that is the address of his daughter. His occupation isn't very clear but may be Private, 20th Regiment.
1. The baptism record for Margaret Elliott gives her parents as Joseph and Phebe Elliott. Note that this combination is sufficiently rare that I can't find any candidates in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses.
2. So the obvious record to accept for their marriage is that dated 24/11/1830 in Bishopswearmouth, Durham. This gives her maiden name as Jobling.
3. From there the only option for her baptism is that on 27/10/1811 in Gateshead, Durham. This gives her parents as John Jobling and Elizabeth Errington. Note that her date of birth is given as 2/12/1810.
4. There are many family trees on Ancestry.com which come to the same concludion that her parents are John Jobling and Elizabeth Errington. They are both said to have been born 'Abt. 1780' in Co. Durham.
