1. I know very little about Elizabeth Scutt, but she is vital to the story. She appears in a Canterbury marriage licence dated 1/8/1821 when married to John Chandler of Barham. Elizabeth is described as 'of Wootton' and the marriage is in Wooton (which is right next door to Denton, Kent). Then in the 1881 census we find Elizabeth Chandler, widow aged 80, living in Canterbury and giving her place of birth as Elsted, Kent. This is the crucial link which connects the Scutt family of Denton to those born in Elsted in 1796 - 1801.
