1. The 1891 census shows the household of John and Jane Ann Burke living in Washington, Durham. Most importantly, living with them is Margaret McGee, single, described as John Burke's sister-in-law, which implies that Jane's maiden name is likely to be McGee. Jane's age is given as 21. See a transcript of the census record at www.familychest.co.uk/History/Data/Cen91_010.htm
2. This is confirmed by a marriage record of John Burke to Jane Ann McGee in Chester-Le-Street in 1st Qtr 1890
3. Jane can also be found in the 1881 census, aged 11, and with the middle initial 'A'. This gives her parent's names as Patrick and Jane, aged 60 and 39 respectively, both born in Ireland. A transcript of the census record can be seen at www.familychest.co.uk/History/Data/Cen81_008.htm
4. I can find no record of her father in the 1891 census, but he might well be dead by then. There is a possible record of her mother in 1891. ie. Jane McGee, Age 47, Widow, living as a boarder with a household in Washington and working as a farm labourer.
