Note on Husband: Giuseppe AZARO - shared note

1. There is an entry for Giuseppe in the conscription lists (Lista di Leva) but he is marked as 'Renitente 14/10/1866'. So he failed to turn up, but no reason is given.

2. In the 1895 census of Argentina there is a record of a Jose Azaro, aged 45, in Partido Las Heras, Buenos Aires, which understates his age by about 4 years. The church record of his marriage similarly understates his age. There is a plaque in the cemetery which says he was born 19/3/1850 and died 17/11/1921. The marriage record confirms that this guy really is the son of Emanuele Azaro and Teresa Stagnaro.

Two other elements of confirmation are also that :

(i). His two eldest children were named Manuel and Teresa, which are the names of the parents of Giuseppe.

(ii). Camillo Azaro, the son of Antonio, also appears to be living in Las Heras in 1906.

3. The above census record of 1895 lists the following members of his family living with him :

His wife Teresa Bonino, born 1861

Teresa aged 19

Jose aged 14

Carlos aged 12

Juan aged 10

Benito aged 9

Andres aged 9

Geronimo aged 5

Francisco aged 4

Mariano aged 2

Ramon aged 1

In addition to these there is a record of Manuel Felix Cipriano Azaro born in 1877 in General Las Heras, son of Jose Azaro and Teresa Bonino.

4. The marriage act of Jose Azaro and Teresa Bonino can be found in 1875 in the Church of Nuestra Senora de la Merced in Merlo, Buenos Aires. This tells us that Jose Azaro is the son of Manuel Azaro and Teresa Estañares (or something like that). Clearly the mother's surname isn't Stagnaro, so it isn't quite right, but it seems as though the Italian 'Stagno' (=tin) has been translated into the Spanish 'Estaño'. Apart from this slight difficulty, I have little doubt in saying that this Jose Azaro, son of Manuel Azaro and Teresa Estañares is the same as Giuseppe Azaro, the son of Emanuele Azaro and Teresa Stagnaro. His age in the marriage record is given as 34, so he seems to be consistently overstating by 4-5 years.

5. A plaque on his grave (presumably in General Las Heras) says that he was born 19/3/1850 and died 17/11/1924.

Note on Wife: Teresa BONINO

1. A plaque on her grave (presumably in General Las Heras) confirms the dates of her birth and death as 2/5/1862 and 29/6/1937.
