1. All my information about Richard Pettit and his family comes from Janet Penfold, a great great granddaughter of his. Janet can be contacted at paddy@penfold46.freeserve.co.uk.

 

2. In the 1881 census he is living at 11 Charles St, Horselydown with his wife Emma (age 32 from Suffolk) and 4 children aged 7 and under.

There is a slight difficulty that his age is given as 29, which can't be right, but there is enough other evidence to be confident that this is the right guy.

 

3. Janet tells me that in 1896 he was living at 56 Queen Elizabeth Street, which should be only a few doors away from my grandfather Victor Pettit.
