William VOWLES of Brislington, Somerset. Gentleman Edwin HARDY of Leigh View, Bushy Park, Totterdown, Somerset. Builder SUBJECT William Vowles is conveyihg a plot of land at 43 Richmond Street, Pylle Hill, Bedminster, Bristol, to Edwin Hardy. No money is changing hands - the conveyance is "in consideration of Edwin Hardy having partly erected a messuage on the plot at his own cost . . . and of the covenants hereinafter contained". The conveyance is (in my experience) very unusual. On the cover it is described as a "freehold plot of ground" but the seller is requiring that a ground rent of £2 10s per annum should be paid in perpetuity. There are also conditions for insurance and for repossession by the vendor which would normally be found in a lease. A schedule at the end lists previous indentures relating to the property from 1853 to 1881. | |||||||||||
