William Pike BAYS of Wisbech, St Peters, Cambridgeshire - Gentleman. Alfred HILL of Walpole St Peters, Norfolk - Post Office Manager. SUBJECT We are told of an Indenture of mortgage of 1846 by which HENRY HALL BUCK borrowed £20 from WILLIAM BAYS on the security of property in Walpole St Peter. He borrowed two further sums of £20 each in 1850 and in 1873. None of these sums has been repaid and William Bays is now selling the property to ALFRED HILL for £90. It consists of a cottage near the church in Walpole St Peter. There is a note to say that Alfred Hill has has married after 1834 and that "his widow shall not be entitled to dower out of the said hereditaments". This relates to a change in the law in 1833 regarding rights to dower. | |||||||||||
