George Rastrick - Steward of Manor of Tarring Thomas Lee of the Unicorn Inn, Chichester, Sussex. Publican Thomas Haylor of Chichester, Sussex. Edward Bennett Collins (d 22/12/1885) Sussex. SUBJECT Admission of Messrs Thomas Lee and Thomas Haylor. The document concerns copyhold property in the Manor of Tarring which had been held by Edward Bennett Collins up until his death in December 1885. In his will he left the property to Thomas Lee and Thomas Haylor. As is the normal procedure with Copyhold property, these two are now being admitted to the Manor so that they can take possession of the property. We are told that Lee and Haylor will hold the property "subject to the trusts of the will", which suggests that they are only trustees - we are not told who the ultimate beneficiary will be. The property consists of a messuage called "Bolds" and four other cottages, one of which had been erected by Edward Collins. Plot numbers are given which would enable three of the cottages to be identified on the Tithe Commutation Map (assuming that this map still exists). | |||||||||||
