Robert Purland the Younger of Norwich, Norfolk, Druggist John Porter of Norwich, Norfolk, Carpenter William Foster of Norwich, Norfolk, Gentleman SUBJECT This indenture is the second part of a contract of sale by Lease and Release. It concerns property in the parishes of St Peter Hungate and St Simon and Jude, Norwich. Robert Purland is dividing the property, which consists of 'several' messuages into 7 equal shares and selling 6 shares to John Porter. The indenture begins by reciting a previous sale of 1802 by which Robert Purland acquired the property from Deborah, Mary, Elizabeth, Martha and Priscilla Baldy of Mattishall, Norfolk. I am not quite clear how William Foster comes into it. He appears to be some sort of trustee "in order to prevent any wife of the said John Foster becoming entitled" to any of the property. An additional memorandum written on the back of the document describes a further sale of the property, later in the same month, to Francis Bush, Dier. | |||||||||||
