SUBJECT
The document is titled "Abstract of Title of Mr Edward Atkinson to a freehold piece of land on Beddlestead Green, Surrey, formerly copyhold land of the Manor of Chelsham ".

The history of this plot of land begins in 1763 when Thomas Weeks died leaving it to his wife Alice, for her lifetime, and then to Ann Enderson. Alice Weeks died in 1780, but Ann Enderson had predeceased her so the property passed to her only son, William Enderson.

William Enderson died in 1832 leaving it to his son Thomas, who immediately sold it to Edward Atkinson for £50. Finally, in November 1873, the land was enfranchised (ie converted into freehold property) by the Lord of the Manor of Chelsham.

The property had consisted of a cottage and garden, but the cottage was pulled down and two semi-detached cottages erected in its place by Edward Atkinson,

There is no precise date on the document, but ' 1873' has been written on the cover, which agrees with the paper watermark.
