Rev. John Pennington of Lowton, Lancashire Thomas Farnworth of Astley, Lancashire, Gentleman Joseph Eckersley of Bedford, Lancashire, Yeoman Peter Withington of Liverpool, Lancashire, Esquire John Shaw Leigh of Liverpool, Lancashire, Gentleman William Horfoot of Bedford, Lancashire, Yeoman SUBJECT The document begins by reciting an Indenture of Lease and Release of 1794 by which William Horfoot acquired property in Culcheth for £880 from John Heys (?). William Horfoot died in 1811 leaving his property to trustees John Pennington and Thomas Farnworth for the use of his wife Martha during her life (we are not told what happens after that). Martha died in 1824. William Horfoot's property was then sold by auction at the 'Sign of the Sparrow' in Culcheth for £1270 to Joseph Eckersley. But Eckersley was acting on behalf of Peter Withington to whom the property is now being conveyed. John Leigh is some sort of trustee in the contract. The property is a messuage in Culcheth, Lancs known as Tan Pits Cottage, together with closes of land known as Three Bottoms, Barn Field and The Orchard Croft. | ||||||||||||||
